For all of you that got an XT-286 and believed IBM when they
insisted that there is no way to change the 640Kb on the
motherboaard, they lied. Now that I am with Chrysler, I was told
that there is a way and it is indicated in the Tech Reference
(68X2537) Manual. Page 1-43 discribes Jumper J10 that will change
the motherboard memory to 512Kb; well something is better than
nothing. The only problem is that J10 is under the drive support
bracket, and short of pulling the motherboard it was a mother of
a job to reach it and put a berg connector on the front 2 pins.
Unfortunately, no connector is the same as a connector on the
back two pins and IBM is too cheap to waste connectors. Once the
connector was installed I only had to change the RAMPage! board
to indicate only 512Kb on non-paged memory currently installed,
and I picked up 128Kb on memory for programs to run in expanded
memory. It only took 3 tries (two lost berg connectors) but it
was worth it. Now I only have to tell all of our uses out there
how to do it themselves.....
